When a user logs in using a read-only password, he can use the database (view, launch, login), but he will not be able to make changes to the database. He will also not be able to view or access any attached files.
However, the user is able to modify most preference settings eg. change hotkey, add/remove browsers/applications etc. These preference settings will be preserved even after the local database is synchronized with the reference database.
